A dahabiya is not the same as a small boat, it is a truly special, traditional Nile sailing vessel with a history stretching back centuries. The first dahabiyas began sailing from Luxor in the 1850s, and they remain one of the most elegant and luxurious ways to experience the Nile. These beautiful wind-powered boats have carried royalty, writers, and explorers, Agatha Christie travelled the Nile on a dahabiya, and vessels of this style were used in the time of Cleopatra and Mark Antony.
